You Can Have it All! Four Sustainable Travel Destinations That Just Ooze Luxury.
We’re all hoping that travel will be a big part of 2021. If you make plans with Tread Lightly Travel, you can make sure that hope comes to fruition.
We focus on travel destinations that allow you to get back to nature while also enjoying the finer things in life. And the best part? We go through a rigorous selection process, working with local tourism boards and carefully picked travel partners to ensure that every destination we send our clients to meets our guidelines for sustainability.
It is possible to combine luxury travel and treading lightly - we arrange trips of a lifetime that prove it!
Here are four of Tread Lightly Travel’s favorite destinations worldwide. Any one of them could be your next adventure.
Scottish Highlands: Eagle Brae Eco Lodges
Nestled on a remote Highland hillside, Eagle Brae’s eco-cabins are at one with the purple heather and rolling green grass. In fact, with their natural cedar walls and grass roofs you could almost mistake these luxury self-catering cottages for bothies. But they’re so much more than huts for hikers to hunker down in!
Each lodge is unique, with hand carved internal features, local ceramics and hand woven rugs all part of the decor. Sleeping between two and six people, these carbon neutral cabins are perfect for anything from a romantic getaway to a brisk weekend of hiking with the family. And in a country as beautiful and environmentally conscious as Scotland, you’re bound to have an amazing time whether you’re snuggled beneath a blanket watching a kite surf thermals, or reaching the summit of a nearby Monroe.
Palau: The Palau Pacific
Palau is one of the most sustainable travel destinations in the world. In fact, this tiny island nation takes eco tourism so seriously that all visitors have to sign an eco-friendly pledge upon arrival on the remote archipelago.
And the pledge is more than just a bit of show for tourists. Most of the tiny country’s hotels and guest houses are eco-friendly, with the Palau Pacific Resort no exception. In fact, this luxury ocean-front hotel is even involved in a program to relocate baby giant clams from exposed areas to safe ones in the Pacific Ocean!
If you spend time at the Palau Pacific, go for a Water Bungalow and enjoy creature comforts while gazing out your full-length plate-glass front window onto your private porch and, beyond it, an impossibly turquoise sea.
Bhutan: Como Uma Paro
You might not immediately picture Bhutan when you think of sustainable travel, but this mountainous Buddhist kingdom is actually the world’s only carbon-negative country.
Como Uma Paro is, like everything in Bhutan, an intimate experience. It’s a small resort with whitewashed walls, fresh mountain air, and just twenty luxury rooms. As with all travel in Bhutan, guests to Como Uma Paro must book through an agency. When you travel through Tread Lightly, we arrange evening meals at the award winning hotel restaurant, a 60 minute massage for every guest, and tours of local monasteries.
Finland: The Arctic Tree Hotel
Sustainable travel to Finland has never been easier. The country recently launched the Sustainable Finland program, which gives guests easy access to information on every eco-friendly travel company in this pristine Nordic state.
The Arctic Tree Hotel is categorized as ‘extraordinary’ by the program, and it’s easy to see why! If you visit, you will stay in modernist tree houses suspended in a forest, glowing with warm light all winter. Which, by the way, is when you should visit if you fancy catching a glimpse of the aurora borealis.
A trip to the Tree Hotel is perfectly capped by dinner at the in-house restaurant, Rakas, which serves a twist on traditional Finnish fare.
Taking The Guesswork Out of Travel
