I hope all is well with you! I am enjoying the summer and the lovely weather here in Ann Arbor with Aaron and our boys.
I am also thrilled to be in the midst of several exciting Sphinx projects. We are halfway through our 20th anniversary year and it has truly been one of the best yet! From our 20th annual Sphinx Competition and the momentous launch of SphinxConnect – the epicenter for artists and leaders in diversity – with more than 500 attendees, to receiving honors like the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Detroit Music Awards and the Human Spirit Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, to the opportunity to have Sphinx participate as a significant voice in major industry convenings nationally and globally such as the League of American Orchestras conference and Classical:NEXT, we have shared our mission of transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts with so many.
As our voice has continued to grow in strength and volume, we have publicly challenged ourselves as well as our supporters with renewed drive and a grand charge for the next two decades: 20 new commissions, $3 million in artist grants, $5 million in scholarships, 250,000 students reached through our programs and 40 million reached in live and broadcast audiences. Through these objectives, we look to connect the immense talent that exists in our communities with the field itself, providing access where it may not exist, and to cultivate the relevance, cultural landscape, and ultimate survival of the arts and classical music.
I have tremendous confidence that Sphinx can and will accomplish these goals, but I do know that we will not do it alone. The strength of our supporters and advocates is our most vital asset, and I call upon you now to strengthen your mark on Sphinx's legacy. Please consider making a special anniversary year gift to Sphinx.
