How Much THC Will Get You High?
What is Microdosing?
Microdosing marijuana means using as little as possible to achieve the desired effect. Microdosing is popular because it means you get more bang for your buck. It is also popular because microdosing allows users to receive all benefits of THC and get the desired experience without negative side effects that may interfere with daily activities.
Each person’s THC tolerance will vary based on several factors because each person’s body composition differs. Things that will impact the dose required for microdosing include things like a person’s tolerance, physical condition, individual physiology, and many other factors. An individual’s tolerance can be dependent on how frequently they use marijuana.
This has to do with a person's Endocannabinoid system, also known as ECS. How many receptors an individual has and how their personal endocannabinoid system works will determine their individual tolerance. With frequent usage, over time, it takes a higher and higher dosage to produce the same effects. A person’s weight and metabolism may also play a role in the required dose to feel the effects of the THC.
There are also other factors that may affect the required dosage to feel the effects of THC. Perhaps you’ve had a vacation or a long-break from using THC, this would impact your tolerance levels. Also, using marijuana on an empty stomach may also impact dosing requirements.
What are the Recommended Doses?
A microdose that is extremely effective for one user may not produce any effects in another. It is important to find the correct microdose that is suitable for you. Every type and strain of marijuana differs in THC potency, so be sure to check the percentage of THC before using a new product. When considering flowers, it is important to note that 10% THC or less is considered mild, 10 to 20% THC is considered good for beginners or casual users, and 20% THC or more is very strong.
Here are some suggestions to use as a guide to get started. These are a guide to help begin microdosing, but as previously mentioned, it will vary depending on a variety of factors.
For first-time users, we recommend starting with a dosage from 1 to 5 mg. For experienced users, a dosage of 5 to 15 mg should be suitable. Very experienced users will need an increased micro dosage of 15 to 30 mg. For high-tolerance users, they may need a dose of 30 to 50 mg. For patients with cancer or other medical conditions, doses of 50 to 100 mg may be needed to achieve desired feelings.
Remember to slowly increase your dosage in small increments until you find the sweet spot for feeling the experience.
About Edibles
While using marijuana products comes in various methods, using edibles is a unique form of consumption that can be extremely potent. Edibles are when hemp is incorporated into food products, such as food, candies, or snacks. There are also hemp-infused drinks. These products are unique in that our bodies process THC differently when we ingest or drink it versus other methods of consumption. After ingesting THC, we create a more potent compound inside our bodies. This more potent compound, known as 11-hydroxy-THC, can be more potent and longer lasting, with stronger effects.
Compared to other methods of THC use, such as smoking or vaping, edibles often take longer to feel the effects, which can range anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Smoking or vaping THC causes a quick inhalation, which quickly moves to the brain, producing faster effects. Be sure to start slowly when it comes to using edibles, as it can be easy to take too much in an effort to produce faster results. A general rule of thumb is to wait at least two hours before you consider taking any additional edibles.
Take a good look at your product's label so you will know exactly what dosage is in a specific amount of the edible consumed. Using reputable marijuana products with clearly marked dosages is important to avoid overdose. Aim to find products that are dosed conservatively if trying to begin microdosing. Low-dose products are much easier to microdose with as opposed to high-potency marijuana products.
How CBD affects THC
Did you know that CBD and THC are both phytocannabinoids? There are 120 different known phytocannabinoids that work as part of your endocannabinoid system to maintain balance in your body. CBD and THC can be consumed individually or together.
Marijuana contains other smaller compounds, known as terpenes. A theory, known as the entourage effect, suggests that these terpenes found in marijuana work together with the phytocannabinoids like CBD and THC to produce a better overall effect. Some research suggests that taking phytocannabinoids and terpenes together may be beneficial in assisting certain conditions or desired effects, such as pain relief, anxiety, cancer, inflammation, and other specific health conditions.
For microdosing THC and CBD together, start with a 1:1 ratio of 1 mg each. Continue to raise your dose until you get desired results for specific symptoms. Many people have reported positive effects when combining the two.
