By using AI writing tools, can you increase your content output while improving content quality? Do you even need human writers and editors?

Jasper and Quillbot are both generative AI writing tools with slightly different features, while Scripted is a content platform that integrates AI and handpicked human writers. 

AI writing tools are best for templated content that doesn't require unique insight or knowledge. Human writers, on the other hand, have many abilities that AI can't match.

Written content online must be optimized for humans and search engines, such as Google. There are a number of topics that AI can cover well, especially when given accurate data for context. However, generative AI tools have many weak points, including:

• Inaccuracy: AI can generate factual errors and hallucinate or make up false information that sounds plausible. You'll lose reader trust, and it could harm your brand reputation.
  
  
• Not being aware of context: Jasper can use brand documents as context, but it's still limited compared to human writers, who can evaluate and process information to subtly craft content for your audience. For example, if you're writing about winter fashion, you'll need a different writing style, tone, and vocabulary for Vogue's typically older, wealthier target audience than if you're writing for Cosmopolitan.
  
  
• Lack of analysis: Generative AI is not currently good at finding insights in research and has a strong bias towards writing things that have already been said but in different ways. Humans are better at connecting the dots and finding new insights in research.

Another variable in comparing Jasper vs Quillbot vs Scripted content, is that search engines such as Google want to see content "written by people, for people" with unique insights and experience in content.

Google does state in their guidelines that human effort is one aspect of how they decide what to rank:

Effort: Consider the extent to which a human being actively worked to create satisfying content. Effort may be
direct, such as a person translating a poem from one language to another. Effort may go into designing page
functionality or building systems that power a webpage, such as the creation of a page that offers machine
translation as a service to users. On the other hand, the automatic creation of thousands of pages by running

etc., would not be considered to have human effort.

Content written by humans isn't guaranteed to perform better in search engines than articles produced by fully automated AI, but over time, Google aims to reward it, stating that their plan is to continue "refining how the classifier detects unhelpful content and launch further efforts to better reward people-first content."

As with any powerful tool, there are lots of nuances in the ways that Jasper vs Quillbot vs Scripted work. We're going to take a look at each one of these platforms in detail and compare them to help you figure out which is best for your marketing goals.

Scripted is the only platform offering both Human and AI content writing. Its aim is to use AI for efficiency and speed when appropriate and tap into the expertise of human writers for thoughtful, high-quality branded content that stands out.

It's used by a wide range of businesses, from small local companies to enterprise giants, marketing agencies, web developers, health and wellness organizations, and many others.

Jasper

Jasper is one of many AI writing assistant software tools, often used by marketing agencies as well as individual writers looking to speed up their content production. It is built on top of Open AI's GPT4, as well as undisclosed other language models.

It features pre-defined templates for common content types, like blog articles and email marketing.

QuillBot

Quillbot is similar to Jasper in its features but is marketed primarily as an academic research and paraphrasing tool.

Jasper Benefits 

The main benefit of Jasper is that it allows you to upload documents about your company, which it can use as context within its AI prompts. Many users of ChatGPT have reported doing this manually, by pasting in brand style guidelines for example, but Jasper automates this, helping you to write content that is aligned with your brand, in a similar style to other content you've previously published, and with accurate facts about your organization. 

Jasper also comes with many pre-built templates to quickly produce content in different formats. And it has a Chrome extension, so you can add AI writing capabilities to almost any website. 

QuillBot Benefits 

Quillbot is designed to help you research and write content based on verified facts. It does this via a web search feature that can automatically add citations in different formats to your content. 

It is also good at summarizing and paraphrasing, adding to its benefits for academic writing, as well as creating online articles in YMYL niches that require thorough fact-checking, such as health supplements.

Quillbot has a Chrome extension like Jasper, and it also adds a Microsoft Word plugin and desktop app, if you prefer working outside of a web browser.

Quality of Output - Scripted  vs Jasper vs QuillBot

Quality is subjective, but there are a number of ways to objectively measure it. 

Ultimately, results matter. If you're aiming to increase your organic search traffic, then better quality means higher rankings, more traffic, as well as higher on-page conversion rates. 

When it comes to comparing AI tools to Scripted, one of the advantages of AI tools is that you can quickly get different versions of a part of the content. Found Jasper is using overly academic-sounding words? Ask it to rewrite for grade eight level reading age, which many content marketers use as a benchmark.

One of the advantages of Scripted is that, if you opt for their editing service, you won't have to ask for parts of the content to be rewritten. Their editorial team will have already done that for you. 

Another quality consideration is SEO optimization. Jasper has the option to pay an additional fee and get access to their SurferSEO integration, which significantly helps to shape your content towards what's going to perform well on Google. 

When this integration is enabled, it's a guide that gives feedback inside Jasper on how well it thinks the content stacks up against the current page ranking for your chosen keyword. This is helpful, but it doesn't actually change the output of the AI writing assistant that Jasper is mainly known for. 

So you'll still need to go through and make edits based on the recommendations from Surfer. 

Quillbot currently doesn't offer any built-in SEO tools.

Scripted has a number of processes that work towards increasing your organic traffic. Firstly, on selected plans, they offer content strategy sessions to look at the big picture. 

Then, inside the platform, there's a Keyword Research Tool, and Smart Content Brief feature to help you create content that your target audience is looking for. On top of that, Scripted writers are encouraged to complete HubSpot SEO training, so they know how to write content that naturally looks good to robots and humans alike.  You can view content written by Scripted writers by browsing their profiles and then checking their portfolios. 

To compare the quality of each of the platforms, I started with part of a blog post written using the Scripted platform and asked Jasper and Quillbot to recreate it.

Jasper Quality

To recreate this in Jasper, I signed up for an account. The first step is picking a writing style. I chose authentic, sophisticated, and trustworthy.

Next, I selected the One-shot blog post tool. Even though I'm just comparing the intros, I wanted to use Jasper the way most users would typically do so.

Once I'd entered the blog topic and audience, all I had to do was click Generate content and it produced the whole blog post in roughly three seconds. 

Here's the introduction it wrote:

Are you a professional who wants to know more about IRAs? Individual Retirement Accounts or IRAs are one of the most tax-advantaged accounts available in the US. Whether you’re just starting your career or planning for retirement, knowing everything there is to know about IRAs can be crucial in achieving your financial goals. In this blog post, we will cover everything there is to know about IRAs, from the types of accounts available, contribution limits to Roth vs. Traditional IRA and other valuable tips.

Before I share my own opinion on the pros and cons of each article intro, let's ask Jasper itself, via Jasper Chat: 

I agree with Jasper on this one.

 "...in terms of sophistication, elegance, authenticity, and trustworthiness, Jasper's introduction might fall short. The language used is less personal and lacks the narrative quality seen in Scripted's introduction. The tone doesn't resonate as much with readers who might need more context or motivation to delve into a complex topic like IRAs."

Jasper's intro actually feels more fluffy, starting with "Are you a professional who wants to know more about IRAs?", which states the obvious, and ending with "In this blog post, we will cover everything there is to know about IRAs...", which is essentially just repeating the article's title. 

It also lacked the real-world data from the Scripted article. External links to citations are recognized by Google and other search engines such as Bing and Yandex, and are a quality signal for their algorithms. 

Having tested Jasper in considerably more depth, this sample is representative of the quality you can expect when getting outputs without first providing your own research. So if you do decide to sign up for Jasper, I recommend researching your topic and copying and pasting relevant source information in to use as references.

QuillBot Quality 

I used the Write First Draft feature and entered the following prompt:

Write the introduction to a blog post about Everything You Need to Know About IRAs. Suggest a better title if you can. Write for an audience of working professionals, in an authentic, trustworthy, sophisticated tone.

Comparing Jasper vs Quillbot, the time to generate an output was roughly the same.

It's shorter than Jasper's intro but fairly similar. The quality is slightly below Jasper's, but considering that Jasper is more than double the price of QuillBot (more on that below), I think QuillBot has done well.

Just like Jasper, you're going to get much better outputs if you feed it some research to give context to its writing. QuillBot has a built-in research feature for this, where you can search the internet and it will pull out relevant sections of web pages for you to quote or paraphrase. Templates work differently between Scripted, Jasper, and QuillBot. On Scripted there are categories of the type of content, but each order gets a detailed brief created for it. Jasper has templates for automating whole content items, such as blog posts, as well as content parts, like SEO meta descriptions.

Scripted is always open to taking on custom content projects, as well as having over 16 content types, including:

  High-quality, SEO-friendly posts. Comparing Jasper vs Quillbot, Jasper has the edge here, but human editing still provides better results than fully automated AI content.

It is worth noting that Amazon has recently updated its guidance on AI written content and its stance on the matter is continuing to evolve. Currently, Kindle authors are required to inform Amazon if any content is written by AI.

• Press Releases
  When something notable happens in your business, you want to announce it. AI writing tools are great at doing this in the correct format, but humans are better at knowing how to appeal to specific industry publications or even specific journalists, as well as including more context about the company.

• Product Descriptions
  Scripted writers can draw on fully up-to-date information about products, as well as directly learn about the product themselves in some cases, as I have done in this article by signing up for free trials of Jasper and Quillbot. Human writers are also able to view competitor product descriptions and Amazon ranking information as part of their research. While AI tools like Jasper and Quillbot are capable of generating social media post suggestions based on keywords or topics you input, they lack the ability to truly understand trends, current events, or cultural nuances that humans inherently possess.

• Video Scripts
  Capture attention with dynamic video scripts. Jasper and Quillbot provide a good starting point for writing video scripts using templates. However, they may fall short when deeper story development is needed or when language has to follow certain emotions or tonality that might be best understood by human writers.

• Ad Copies
  Craft compelling copy for high-impact advertising campaigns. Humans have an advantage here due to their inherent ability to understand buyer psychology – why people buy products/services from emotional and logical perspectives –  something AIs currently cannot fully accommodate despite providing catchy headline options or ad phrases.

QuillBot Pricing 

Quillbot is the cheapest option, with the Premium plan coming in at $19.95 per month. This includes much larger limits for the number of words you can summarize or paraphrase than the free plan.

Conclusion
