- Why I Love Freelance Writing
Why I love freelance writing
I began freelancing when there was an illness in the family. Since I knew I needed to travel often, and usually with short notice, keeping up with a full-time job became impossible.
But I won't lie. Freelancing has spoiled me in so many ways, I don't think I can ever return to a full-time desk job. Here's a few of the reasons why freelancing works for me, and might work for you.
I Am My Own Boss
I admit, I've never had problems with the people I've worked with, but there's something to be said for being completely in control. You can start work as early as you want, you can work as late as you want. You don't have to worry about negotiating personalities or bad moods. Your clients judge you on the quality of your work, and that's it.
My Time is My Own
Some people might have trouble setting their own deadlines, but if you are disciplined, freelancing is a great way to maximize your own productivity. Deadlines are king, but you can manage your time to complete both personal and professional goals. As I'm trying to lose weight (aren't we all?), I can build in exercise time and time to cook healthy meals between writing assignments.
And best of all? If I need a break, I can take a break.
Casual Dress Code
You can rest assured that while I'm working to provide the best content I can, I'm not wasting any time with how I look. I wear whatever outfits I deem appropriate for the task at hand. Examples of these outfits include: pajamas, slankets, quilts, and on those hot summer days, you can only guess.
Everyday is a new challenge
The number of topics I've written about defies belief. Everyday I get to learn something new about tech, about marketing, about cars, about you-name-it. You don't have to worry about boredom when you freelance. And, since you get to choose your assignments, you can opt out of any work you think might be dull or irrelevant to your particular skills.
Granted, freelancing does have risks: there isn't always as much work as you'd like, and you have to be very organized. But as far as I'm concerned, the benefits outweigh the risks.
