We appreciate your interest in joining our growing family, but becoming a writer on Scripted is no small feat.
Learn more about the process here.
Before we were Scripted, we were a screenwriting company named Scripped. Over 80,000 writers have registered on Scripped to use our free, Web-based screenwriting software and enter contests hosted by Hollywood celebrities and studios. When we first launched Scripted, the best of our writers from Scripped were invited to join. Scripped was the original backbone of Scripted.
Since then, hundreds of new writers have joined Scripted, and we took our years of experience working with writers to offer new writing opportunities outside of the entertainment industry. Businesses responded in kind; they loved having the writing process taken care of by our staff and writers like you. It's not easy to find great writers, and we're fortunate to have access to a very large pool.
Our first paying client outside of film was Levi's. Yes, that one, the jean company. It was a fortuitous meeting, but they were excited to work outside of their comfort zone. The project they gave us produced incredible results, and set us in search of other companies, large and small, who might give the best writers we knew a chance to write and earn money.
More success brought interest from the investment community, and their financial support has helped us to find and hire some very talented managers who work hard to build Scripted into a writing company that can improve countless writers' livelihoods while providing valuable services for businesses and organizations.
The Scripted staff respect and admire talented writers. When you write well for us, you become the subject of hallway conversations and meeting agendas. We like to know you by first name and look forward to receiving your emails. This is the personal touch that most freelancing websites leave out, and it comes from a genuine place.
The flip side, of course, is that not every writer makes it onto our radar. To get known, you have to write well for us, and make our clients happy. The rest of this section is about how that process happens.
Thanks for your interest in Scripted. We look forward to getting to know you!
From our pen to yours,
The Scripted Team
Scripted fulfilled a need for me to earn extra income without being away from my two daughters. As a single father in a small town, it means more than I can express in a simple testimonial. I'm averaging a few hundred dollars a month, improving my writing skills, and have found a new sense of joy in everything I do because of my writing jobs on Scripted.
Scripted has given me a great opportunity to improve my writing and learn about new areas in content strategy. Thanks to them, I've been able to earn a bit of spending money and work with some really great people.
I started working with Scripted in the fall of 2011, when I needed some extra income. Scripted has always paid on time, and my writing has benefited from the well-defined assignments. I have learned to stay on topic and to stay focused on what the client wants. I would recommend Scripted any day of the week.
The registration process itself is very simple. We require you to complete every profile field because it helps us to know you're a real person.
After you confirm your email address, you can start applying for specialties.
Specialties are the backbone of our job system. You can only take jobs in those specialties for which you've been approved.
For example, we do a lot of work in finance and technology, and the businesses that hire us have strict requirements. Therefore, we'll only let writers with strong technology and finance backgrounds take these jobs. We follow the same process in entertainment, real estate, fashion, and every industry we work in.
Finally, once you're approved, we don't get in between you and the writing jobs we offer. We built this system with trust in mind, and this is why we're very careful about who we let inside.
When you take a job, it's like a contract with us. You're expected to complete it on time and to the best of your ability. If you fail in either respect, you will no longer be invited to take jobs on Scripted.
You might be thinking: "What if I don't have a real speciality? I just like to write, and I research really well." Don't worry, we like that, too! However, we need to make sure that you can research and take our writing jobs seriously. That's what specialty applications are all about.
Think of specialties like interests or topics that you love to write about. Your best specialty may not be your professional expertise. If you have worked in one field or have experience in many industries, that may help, but your best writing is usually about your passion, and not necessarily the jobs on your resume.
You love to write. What do you most love to write about? Start with that speciality and provide us with some brief background and a writing sample.
You only have access to jobs within your approved specialties. We'll notify you by email and SMS text message when a job you're qualified for becomes available. To take it, simply log into your dashboard and click "Take this job". Then it's yours, and you have to complete it.
There are only two things to remember about your jobs on Scripted: you must submit on time, and you must write them well. That's it!
After you submit, we'll ask the client for feedback about your writing. The better you score, the more jobs we'll offer you relative to other writers. The best way to get more jobs and earn more money is to give each job your best writing effort!
However, if you don't submit on time, you'll be blocked from taking any more jobs in Scripted. If you don't write well, and we determine that your work was hasty or sloppy, you'll be blocked from additional work.
We are willing to give any writer a chance, but we know there are more talented writers than paid writing jobs. For this reason, we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to big mistakes. If you miss a deadline or submit a job that clearly was not written well, we'll give your spot to another talented writer.
